Heart Ring Shapes and Designs
A popular choice of gift for a special someone on any occasion is a heart shaped ring. Nearly any jeweler is well versed in these designs considering how simple it is to frame a gem in the shape of a heart and then in valuable metal. As a result, heart ring designs are not only intricate and ornate but can be among the most inexpensive pieces of jewelry available. Although a ring framed with gold or featuring a diamond will naturally cost several hundred dollars, there are plenty of rings for as little as ten to twenty dollars, providing a great option for matching designs.
Many heart rings are simple affairs, made from pewter or cubic zirconium stones that imitate natural precious stones for only a fraction of the cost. Indeed, even sterling silver rings are inexpensive to make and may only cost thirty or forty dollars. A simple double heart ring of sterling silver costs around twenty dollars, providing a twist on the classic look with its wavy frame and two layers of the design.
By contrast, a diamond heart ring will certainly cost more than the imitation gems. A white and blue diamond ring cast in fourteen carat gold, for example, costs three hundred dollars. These precious stones are layered to provide a drop of color and then fade into the softer tone of the ring base. Many expert jewelers are used to layer colored diamonds in order to give contrast against the metal; the most common use lays three color schemes against one another.
A single color frame, however, works best for larger orders meant for several persons; wedding jewelry, for example, requires uniformity. Heart diamond ring designs can be formatted to fit several sized fingers on custom orders. For mass quantities of one design, a lesser quality metal is often used. Ten carat gold is more common than fourteen or twenty four carat due to the easy availability and drop in price. A ten carat white gold ring with a heart in cross design, for example, costs only seventy dollars. This ring is uniform in white sheen, providing no color, and is perfect for matching outfits or other accessories.
Needless to say, some heart shaped diamond ring formats can come very close to breaking the bank! For those who are interested in high quality jewelry and unconcerned with budget, the diamond size and quality can make a ring stand out in a crowd. Cluster rings use a central stone surrounded by smaller gems, sometimes in a different color and sometimes formatted for a consistent sheen. A woman’s diamond heart cluster ring with fourteen carat gold comes in at a staggering four thousand dollars; the central stone that makes up the heart is a 1.12 cut while the bordering stones are a .2 cut, meaning that the stone in the actual heart filters six times less light than its contemporaries. This is the most beautiful cut for standard stones, although it is understandably beyond the reach of most customers.
Heart shaped rings are not always made with diamonds; indeed the less expensive stones such as amethyst provide brilliant tone and color schemes for a marginal price. Sapphires and emeralds, in general, cost about half as much as diamonds, while pearls fetch about a quarter, and gems such as topaz are more common and fairly inexpensive. Go to a local jeweler to check out inventories or demonstration models of heart rings; nearly any store carries an impressive selection given how popular the design has become. Decide which quality of stone is most important, based on financial requirements, before being swayed by the store’s rings.
